Hearsay over the new Selangor coach have come to an closing stages with Kuala Muda Naza’s K. Devan mark down to replace Dollah Salleh in the hot seat for next season.

Devan, who led the Kedah club side, Kuala Muda Naza to the Premier League title and promotion to the Super League this season, has tender a one-month resignation notice to his boss.

He has a bond to run with the Gurun-based side until June and if his resignation is accepted, it will tile the way for the past Negri Sembilan coach to report for duty instantaneously in Shah Alam.

“Yes, I have submitted a one-month notice to my employers. But I do not wish to comment on my future yet as the (Kuala Muda team) management have not decided on the matter. I will come out with a statement at the appropriate time,” said Devan yesterday.

The Kuala Muda team board is likely to reach a conclusion soon after Hari Raya. They want to fix on on their coaching staff before starting preparations for the new season, which begins in January.

Devan’s name cropped up as the most wanted for the job to take charge of the Red Giants right away after the FA of Selangor decided not to renew Dollah’s contract earlier this month.

The Kuala Muda coach had come under Selangor’s radar after manufacturing a stunning 1-0 upset win over the star-studded Red Giants in the FA Cup quarter-final first-leg match in Alor Star.

Among the other names hype for the job were Perak’s friendly coach Steve Darby and former Selangor defender Mehmet Durakovic.

Besides his achievement in guiding Kuala Muda to the top flight in just one season, Devan also steal the Super League in 2006 and the FA Cup in 2003 with his home state Negri Sembilan.

Should he take charge of Selangor, it would be attractive to see if he would persist with his style of achieving triumph with a team of mostly seasoned hands.

Among the veterans in the Kuala Muda squad are Annuar Jusoh, Azizon Kadir, Liew Kit Kong, Manzoor Azwira, B. Rajanikandh, P. Sivananthan and Rudie Ramli.

Besides ending Dollah’s tenure, Selangor, who finished runners-up to Kedah in both the Malaysia Cup and FA Cup, also dropped six players — skipper Mohd Shukor Adan, Indra Putra Mahayuddin, Megat Amir Faisal, Akmal Rizal Rakhli, Mohd Nuraizat Aziz and Wan Mohd Hoesne.
