At least five players will be discharge following the national football team’s miserable outing in the playing tour of Slovakia lately.
Malaysia lost three matches and drew one in the tour.
National coach B. Sathianathan said he would tender a report to the team executive on their return from Slovakia today.
“I found that some are just not good enough to play at the international level,” said Sathianathan yesterday.
However, he did not name the players likely to be dropped forward of their final phase of preparations for the Merdeka Tournament from Oct 15-25.
The final phase of training for the eight-team Merdeka Tournament will continue after Hari Raya on Oct 3.
Sathianathan said he would take in six more players from Kedah and Perak, who were left behind to represent their states in their AFC Cup quarter-final campaigns.
The six are Badrol Bakhtiar, Mohd Khyril Muhymeen, Mohd Helmi Eliza Elias (Kedah), S. Subramaniam, Mohd Nasril Nourdin and Mohd Hardy Jaafar (Perak).
Sathianathan said he would field the strongest line-up for their final two test matches against Sri Lanka here on Oct 6 and against another side to be confirmed on Oct 10.
Vietnam, Afghanistan, Myanmar, Bangladesh, Nepal and Sierra Leone have confirmed their participation for the Merdeka Tournament while Pakistan have been put on standby as Kazakhstan have yet to give their reply
