The Johor FA resolute to drop the terms Pasir Gudang from the team with instantaneous effect as piece of their preparation to get back the magnificence to Johor football again.

"Somehow it doesn't sound right to name the team Johor-Pasir Gudang or Johor-PG. After all we are Johor and have a proud tradition in Malaysian football," said Johor FA secretary Wan Nizam Wan Omar.

The name Johor-Pasir Gudang was commence last year following the Johor FA plea to the parent body, the FA of Malaysia (FAM) for the insertion of the extra two words following the pulling out of Pasir Gudang United from the M-League after winning the FAM Cup competition.

"At that time we thought since Pasir Gudang United had qualified for the M-League but because of financial contraints which forced the team to pull out, it was only proper that we kept the name alive," added Wan Nizam.

And a fresh look Johor will also contain a new man at the controls - former international Nasir Yusof.

His selection as coach of the Johor team is seen as a progress by the Johor FA to try to bring back the fame days to the southern state after a series of unsatisfactory seasons.

Nasir or warmly known as the "Professor" during his playing days, was a part of the Johor 1991 Malaysia Cup winning squad and has had his fair share of coaching experience too.

After his departure from competitive football he took up coaching and was selected Johor's assistant coach to Khalid Shahdan and Karl Heinz Weigang in the 2003-2004 season before he was selected as the assistant National coach to the Hungarian Bertalan Bicskei in the 2005 season.

"There is no denying Nasir's coaching experience and I am sure he will bring the right approach is his new role. We admit that the Johor team has not been performing as well we should but hopefully Nasir's touches will bring a change of fortune.

His first mission is to pick an extra five players from the one-day open trial at the Larkin stadium here tomorrow to finalize the Johor team before the real homework begins.
