Malaysia managed to withhold the challenge from Sierra Leone in Merdeka Cup 2008 with 4-0 scoreline to lead the group A. Malaysia goals scored by Indra Putra Mahayuddin, Safee Sali, and Negeri Sembilan twins Aidil Zafuan and Zaquan Adha.

The result has secure maximum six points from two consecutives games. Before this Malaysia also beat Nepal with same scoreline.
