A spell with English Premier League side Wigan Athletic is in uncertainty due to lack of finances may perhaps see three young Malaysian footballers lost the chance.

Members of the Kangar-based Ken Barnes Football Academy, Azrizan Ahmad, 17, from Langkawi and Perlis boys Mohd Faqeem Aswad, 16, and Mohd Fadzwin Che Halim, 15, were supposed to report for the stint tomorrow.

Academy chief operating officer P. Subramaniam said the trio, as in previous years, had been recognized by former English player Ken Barnes.

"Unfortunately, while we were able to source for funds in previous years, our efforts have yielded nothing this year

I feel surprised and sad for the boys and for the programme. The boys from Malaysia have been getting opportunities that not even many English boys get, and every boy that we have sent has become a better player for the experience.

Furthermore, many of them have been picked up by the State FAs upon their return. That is what our programme is about, helping to produce players for Malaysian football.

I hope the stint materialises as the boys are so near and yet, so far from what will surely be a fantastic experience for them."
