Will FAM retain Sathia?

FAM will decide to extend B. Sathianathan service as national coach today or to settle with new national coach either local or foreigner.

Before AFF Suzuki Cup kick off, FAM said that B. Sathianathan need bring our national squad to final, if he want to get new contract. But for the past few days the tone was different. Suddenly they said that Asia Cup qualifier will kick off next month, so it’s not a right idea to strip B. Sathianathan and replace him with a new coach.

FAM General Secretary, Datuk Azzudin also didn’t know about B. Sathianathan status. He said that it’s all depending on FAM President, Sultan Ahmad Shah. I don’t know how FAM runs. I hope they have a council that go through round of meeting to discuss our national team failure in AFF Cup and come out with a list of coach that able to twist our fate.

In the mean time, Azzudin ruled out Peter Withe as the next national coach. It still unclear will it be local or foreigner. The reputable local coach at the moment is Azraai Khor Abdullah who has done double treble with Kedah. K. Rajagopal also can’t be rule out because he might get promoted from Malaysia U19 squad to U23 cum national head coach. Or FAM will retain Sathianathan until Malaysia finish their group matches in Asia Cup qualifiers.

It will be irrelevant to retain coach who can’t deliver result in ASEAN. Next month is Asia Cup, bigger stage, bigger pressure. FAM might use excuse as we are unfortunate in AFF to retain him.

I don’t have any ideas any foreigner out there willing to coach Malaysia. FAM needs bigger investment to hire good and reputable coach. But Robert Rene Albert may be temporary solution to coach our national team.
